POSITION TITLE: Clinician/Educator for Employee Wellness Program – Healthcare Institution

*Must be Currently Licensed in the State of California: Licensed MFT (LMFT), LCSW, LPPC, or Licensed Psychologist

Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a non-profit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental health.

Primary Responsibilities/Function: As a part of NAMI San Diego and Imperial Counties’ extended reach, the Clinician/Educator will be a part of the primary clinical team for a portion of an Employee Wellness Program of a large, healthcare institution in San Diego County. Our team is responsible for: an Employee Email Support Line where our clinicians provide standardized assessment, counseling (for example, brief solution focused therapy) and referrals to behavioral health services, and other supports; developing and facilitating monthly workshops; and facilitating monthly support groups to employees of the health institution. The Support Email, workshops, and support groups are advertised as a part of the healthcare institution’s Employee Wellness Program.

Our Clinician/Educator’s work schedule is 24 hours per week: preferably Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. If available, may be asked to work additional hours to complete training/onboarding, and when additional clinical coverage is needed. Work location is typically remote, may periodically conduct in-person outreach at the healthcare institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive employee emails and return calls to them within a business day.
  • Maintain documentation for all employee callers to include name, phone number, email address. In addition, maintain documentation of counseling sessions, including interventions, referrals, employee satisfaction with our services, and approximate hours provided.
  • Provide counseling to employee callers where it is warranted and referral after a maximum of 3 sessions.
  • Identify employee callers with urgent mental health conditions (i.e., suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, experiencing psychosis, etc.), provide crisis intervention and take appropriate steps to ensure their safety, including calls to 911 or access and crisis line.
  • Conduct outreach to promote our program as needed, this may include in-person or virtual presentations at the healthcare institution, including hosting resource tables, etc.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate virtual support groups.
  • Develop and conduct virtual trainings on mental health topics provided by NAMI San Diego and/or healthcare institution.
  • Participate in periodic NAMI San Diego all virtual staff meetings.
  • Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Accountability: Reports to the Lead Clinician/Educator of this program, as well as the Director of the PeerLINKS Department (both from NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties).

Minimum Requirements, including linguistic and cultural skills, education, experiences, licenses and certifications:

  • Current, Valid California license as an LMFT, LCSW, LPPC, or Psychologist.
  • Skill providing professional counseling in accordance with licensing standards of care; excellent customer service and support skills.
  • Ability to successfully assess, provide brief solution-focused therapy, and/or refer appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct crisis assessment and intervention.
  • Follow federal, state, and local legal guidelines especially related to mandatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Zoom, Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Follow and maintain license criteria.
  • Must be organized, have ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, and professional backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate positive/proactive attitude; to consistently maintain ethical behaviors exemplary of quality community service or fair standards, inclusively among all employees and volunteers of NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties, our collaborative healthcare institution partner and the public at large.
  • Comfortable working in an ever-evolving program, where there will be frequent changes in processes. Be flexible with shift priorities and interruptions.

  • Valid California Driver’s License. Able to successfully pass DMV and background check.
  • Must be willing to work from home/or other site other than NAMI San Diego office space.
  • Must be willing to meet all visitor requirements of the healthcare institution.

COVID Protocols and Work Environment.  As an essential worker providing both telehealth and in-person services, successful candidate will follow CDC guidelines, state guidelines and local mandates for COVID 19 prevention.  Remote position. COVID-19 Vaccine required for employment.

Salary: $32.00-$34.00 hourly                                    Part-time position: 24 hours per week.
